To qualify for a Cadetship we have the following minimum entry requirements:
Note: Are you ordinarily a resident in the UK? - Ordinarily a resident in the UK means you have been a resident in the UK for the last 12 months.
Higher National Diploma Route
High grade passes at GCSE (grades A-B)/Scottish Standard level (1-2) or the equivalent in English, Mathematics, Physics or Combined Science and at least one other subject.
Foundation Degree Route
A minimum of 160 UCAS points (including a numerate subject) plus good grades in GCSE Maths, English and a Science subject (as above).
Graduate/Apprentice Programme (Engineering)
A Graduate Entry scheme is available for those candidates who have already qualified in Engineering via apprenticeships, a HND or a degree in a Mechanical field. This course offers a more direct route to the role of an Engineering Officer following the basic outline of a standard Engineering cadetship, but only taking 15 months rather than 3 years. As a prospective Graduate Engineer, you will need to contact the Maritime Coastguard Agency (MCA) and apply for a 'Letter of Initial Assessment' for us to know what courses you will need to take and how much sea time. CARNIVAL UK ASSESSMENT DAYS
We carry out Assessment Days on a regular basis throughout the year no matter what intake you are applying for (intakes start in September or January).
Once you have completed your application form via our downloadable application forms on our 'Current Vacancies' header, we will look through your application forms to make sure you meet all of our requirements and email you with our response shortly after. There is a very high demand for our Cadetships so please make sure you complete the application form correctly with as many details as possible. The more details the better!
Glasgow College of Nautical Studies is situated in the heart of Glasgow on the south bank of the River Clyde. The School of Marine and Mechanical Engineering is dedicated to the delivery of high quality education and training.
Accommodation
There are catered and self-catered accommodation options available. Situated within the College campus, the Hall of Residence offers both accommodation and meals. It consists of 190 single study bedrooms and 16 shared rooms.
A new development of self-catered accommodation is situated directly across from the College offering high quality en-suite accommodation for students in single rooms and a small number of shared rooms.
South Tyneside College, in South Shields, is a National Centre of Vocational Excellence for Marine Engineering. World renowned for the quality of its maritime training, STC provides first class teaching, extensive resources and onsite accommodation.
Accommodation
South Tyneside College offers excellent on-site accommodation in a purpose-built accommodation block. The Dr Winterbottom Hall of Residence is located just 50 metres away from the main College teaching facilities. Single and shared study bedrooms are available and all contain a sink, desk and bookshelves. Shared facilities include showers, toilets and common rooms with TVs. SKY TV is also available in the main lounge, and there is also a computer suite with 24hr free internet access available to residents. You can stay on a bed and breakfast, or a bed, breakfast and evening meal basis.
Warsash Maritime Academy, part of Southampton Solent University on the south coast of England, provides first class education and training for the international shipping and off-shore oil industries.
Accommodation
There are three accommodation sites available for cadets studying at Warsash. Hamblemeads is situated in the centre of the campus and offers 26 en-suite study bedrooms with TV and tea and coffee making facilities. Blyth and Shackleton accommodation blocks offer single and twin bedded rooms with shared bathrooms. TV lounges are provided in both blocks and a billiard room is located in Blyth.
Fleetwood campus is recognised as one of the top Nautical establishments in the country with a wide range of UK and overseas students. The college has been designated as a National Beacon of Excellence and was recently re-accredited for the Charter Mark in recognition of the excellent service it provides to all its learners.
Accommodation
We have a 100-bed Hall of Residence on Campus. All with single rooms. This offers basic student bedsit accommodation at very reasonable rates.
We offer a route purely for Cadets studying at the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) based in Cork for Deck and Engineers studying either a Batchelor of Science in Nautical Science or a Batchelor of Engineering in Marine & Plant Engineering.
