The Ship Services Engineer reports to the Staff Engineer.
1.1 The Ship’s Services Engineer is to manage the ship’s Deck & Hotel services in a way that provides for safe and reliable operation. The SSE will be working together with the other departments onboard to maintain team cooperation and give total customer satisfaction. He will ensure that the technical equipment is operated and maintained in accordance with Classification Society, Flag State and relevant port / world health organisational requirements.
2. Duties include:
2.1 Maintain a close working relationship with the Staff Engineer ensuring that all SOLAS equipment is tested and maintained accordingly. He is to ensure that all SOLAS related maintenance / testing / defects / repairs and histories are recorded in Amos as per the requirement of the FMM.
2.2 Refman to be updated and maintained on a regular basis thus ensuring a complete future refit maintenance and projects database.
2.3 Maintain a close working relationship with the Technical Stores Manager in that he co-ordinates stores, spare gear inventory levels, requisition and costs for technical equipment in his area of accountability.
2.4 Work with the Staff Engineer in administering technical departmental staff appraisals, welfare, with respect to training, discipline, health, safety & hygiene awareness for those staff under his direction and fostering a proactive and diligent approach to risk assessment.
2.5 Organising the attendance of and supervising the performance of shore contract labour employed in his area of accountability ensuring SLA’s are completed and reported back to ships management ashore.
2.6 Ensure that all maintenance & equipment records, including testing and recording of safety equipment, planned maintenance schedules / repairs and associated work orders, for all equipment in his area of accountability be maintained.
2.7 Ensure that all hotel defects are addressed in a prompt manner and a good record kept for those items which are pending.
2.8 To supervise all deck & hotel maintenance to include F&B & accommodation areas, carpentry, plumbing, painting/polishing, upholstery and all hotel supplied services originating in the engine room to include fresh water distribution system, swimming pool and spa systems, sewage systems & fire and sprinkler systems.
2.9 Provide assistance, as required, with garbage room maintenance.
2.10 To manage, supervise, train and direct the deck fitters in the maintenance of all deck machinery as laid out in Amos, FMM and Fleet Regulations.
2.11 To ensure the Ventilation Officer carries out his duties in a diligent and proactive manner and as required by the FMM, SOLAS, and Public Health & Flag State regulations.
2.12 Provide technical training and support to staff under his direction.
2.13 Prior to and during onboard inspections to work alongside the Staff Engineer to liaise with regulating authorities & Port State Control, ensuring that corrective actions are completed, recorded and updated within Amos for those areas under the SSE.
2.14 Responsibility for all Pool and Spa maintenance, including all routines detailed in Amos & Fleet Regulations.
2.15 Issuing instructions to Watchkeeper’s, via the Staff Engineer, with regard to equipment availability, equipment that is required to be shut down and isolated for the next day, equipment that requires testing/monitoring. Detailing any special circumstances regarding various systems.
British Class 1 (Motor) Certificate or equivalent, Eligibility to be issued with a Certificate of Equivalent Competency by the UK Marine and Coastguard Agency is essential.
• Excellent command of English Language, both written and spoken
• Valid ENG1 Medical Certification
• Eligible for issue of a United States C1/D Visa
• Knowledge and experience of modern marine plant, ideally onboard cruise liners in a similar rank.
