Whichever area you wish to work in onboard and whatever the expertise you possess, there are certain things which we look for in all our new recruits and that is commitment, passion, and a desire to work as part of fantastic team. As a member of the Marine and Technical team you would be required to work on board for 3/4 months at a time with c.6 – 8 weeks unpaid leave between contracts. A Deck Officer is a vital part of the ship's management team and will make decisions on navigating and manoeuvring the ship, including communications, which will affect the safety of the ship, its passengers and crew.
We also offer some opportunities for Deck crew/ratings positions including Deck Chief Petty Officer and also Bosun/ 2nd Bosun. An STCW certificate of competency as an Able Seaman alongside relevant experience in a similar role is required.
Other positions which are part of the Deck department include Security Officers who have a primary responsibility of managing the security needs of the ship, crew and passengers. A military policing or civil policing background is essential for this role.
Environmental Compliance Officers are responsible for maintaining environmental compliance by providing guidance and assistance to shipboard personnel in compliance with maritime environmental law.
The role of a marine Engineering Officer stretches way beyond that of other engineering professions, with far greater responsibilities, technical skill and personal qualities required. An Engineering Officer will operate and maintain all the mechanical equipment in the high-tech environment of a modern cruise ship. Key responsibilities include the running and maintenance of the ship's Engine Room and equipment, electrical power generating plant and other equipment such as the refrigeration plant and ventilation systems. The monitoring, overhaul and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and control equipment throughout the ship is also the Engineering Officer's responsibility, as well as controlling the ship's computer-controlled engine management systems. When things go wrong, you will be required to diagnose the fault, repair the equipment and get it back into operation as quickly as possible.
Other positions within the Engine department include the Technical Stores Manager who has an overall responsibility of managing the operation of the onbaord technical stores.
The Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) is a specialist working within the Technical Department who works with the electrical and electronic equipment. The ETO is primarily responsible for the maintenance of the ship's electro-technical equipment including electrical generating plant, electronic/automated control systems, bridge navigational equipment and entertainment systems. In practice this could range from conducting planned maintenance on the propulsion controls to fixing a technical lighting problem in the theatre.
