Electro-technical

The Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) is a specialist working within the Technical Department onboard, and similarly to the Engineering Officer role, requires far greater expertise and responsibilities than other electrical/electronic professions.

The ETO is primarily responsible for the maintenance of the ship's electro-technical equipment including electrical generating plant, electronic/automated control systems, bridge navigational equipment and entertainment systems. In practice this could range from conducting planned maintenance on the propulsion controls to fixing a technical lighting problem in the theatre.
